Handlebars JS Training Course, Part 4

Handlebars JS Training Course, Part 4

September 22, 2016

We've closed in on the end of our Handlebars training and I have four final videos to carry us out. There's three primary things I'm going cover: event delegation, drilling into data, and partial templates. And one of those 4 videos is kind of an 'oops' as I wanted to refactor something that was over-complicated from my drilling into data video.

12 Handlebars training: Event Delegation

Handlebars makes it tricky to attach events to an element in a Handlebars template because it loads the HTML into the DOM after the DOM is initially loaded. Here we focus on how to attach events to elements that didn’t exist initially using jQuery’s super easy event delegation syntax.
13 Handlebars Training: Drilling into data

Learn how to conditionally load a handlebars template based on whether your on a list page or an individual view page using conditional logic.
13.1 Handlebars Training: Drilling into data – Light Refactor

This is an impromptu video to address an opportunity to refactor and uncomplicate something that can be simpler. I use {{@index}} to get the index of the item in the array instead of of adding the “id” property to each object in the characters array. It simplified things.
14 Handlebars Training: Partials

Finally a meandering video on learning how to re-use parts of our templates in multiple places with Partials.

I hope you enjoyed and learned something new from this video training course. I know I really learned a lot myself and enjoyed making these videos!
